Scholarships & Awards

Anoka Halloween Capital of the World® supports for the educational, social, and recreational welfare of children and youth in our community. To honor and encourage local youth, and the adults whose volunteerism benefits them, Anoka Halloween Capital of the World® awards five scholarships and several awards annually. The scholarship program includes three scholarships given to Anoka Royal Ambassadors at the end of their reign.

Youth Citizenship Scholarship


Since 1962, two graduating seniors are awarded the Youth Citizenship Scholarship based on outstanding citizenship and leadership in their community. Students apply for this scholarship in the fall of their senior year. Recipients are announced during half time of the Pumpkin Bowl.

Elementary School Button Sales


Students from Anoka elementary schools sell festival buttons each fall, in part to raise money for their school. The top sellers from each school are recognized with a cash prize and are invited to ride in the Big Parade of Little People and the Grande Day Parade.

High School Band Award


In recognition of their marching and musical excellence, a number of awards given to high school marching units participating in our Grande Day Parade. Bands are judged by division. Elementary Schools – In appreciation for their participation in the Big Parade of Little People and all the ways that Anoka elementary schools support and encourage students, Anoka Halloween Capital of the World® makes an annual contribution to each school’s Media Center. Anoka elementary schools participate in the annual sale of buttons. The button sales are a fundraising event for the schools. Top sellers at each school are awarded savings bonds as well as cash prizes.

Honored Community Partner Award


The recipient of this award is selected annually by the Anoka Halloween Capital of the World® Committee. It honors a business or community organization that has demonstrated ongoing support of and partnership with Anoka Halloween Capital of the World®. Our Community Partners provide valuable and much appreciated the support to Anoka Halloween Capital of the World® and the activities we provide for the community.

Youth Service Award


This award recognizes an adult who has generously donated their time and talents in support of youth and children in the Anoka area. This award had been given every year since 1956. Please note that all nominees must performing 100% Volunteer, non-paid, work.
